Mason: AMA’s call for a public inquiry leaves Stel
May 16, 2011
Alberta's NDP Opposition leader Brian Mason says the Tories are out of excuses after the Alberta Medical Association backed a public inquiry into doctor intimidation today.
“After months of downplaying and half-measures, there’s nowhere left for this government to hide," says Mason. “If the Tories really care about restoring confidence in our health system, they’ll act now that doctors are speaking loud and clear. The AMA’s support for an inquiry adds tremendous weight to the opposition’s calls for a judicial inquiry, held in public view with powers to call on whatever or whoever is needed to get to the bottom of intimidation in the health system.
“We’ve said all along that the Health Quality Council does not have the powers to conduct the investigation. Alberta’s doctors apparently agree.”
