Mason calls conflict of interest on Redford’s team
October 05, 2011
Alberta’s NDP Opposition leader Brian Mason is calling on premier-designate Alison Redford to eliminate a conflict of interest by either removing AHS board chair Ken Hughes from her transition team, or ask him to step down as head of AHS.
“It’s improper that one of the people responsible for the largest government organization in Alberta takes a political position in support of a premier,” Mason says. “Our health system needs clear-headed management free from insider politics. I’m concerned that AHS will not get due attention while Mr. Hughes is busy with partisan work.
“Ms. Redford can have Mr. Hughes on a transition team, or have him as board chair of AHS, but not both.”
