Redford breaking promise on judicial inquiry
November 16, 2011
Alberta’s NDP Opposition leader Brian Mason says Alison Redford is breaking another promise by forcing the Health Quality Council to handle an investigation into doctor intimidation.
“Alison Redford promised a judicial inquiry – there’s already legislation in place to make that happen. She didn’t promise Albertans a contrived and blurred process run through the HQC,” Mason says. “Ms. Redford is trying to hide any PC wrongdoing at least until after the next election. The HQC allows her to dodge responsibility for making that decision.
Health Minister Fred Horne said today the government will introduce legislation to modify the HQC on Monday.
“If it all seems too confusing, that’s because it’s meant to confuse Albertans so the PCs will not be held to account for forging a system to intimidate health professionals. Alberta’s NDP will hold Ms. Redford to her promise.”
