Liberals and Conservatives have proven themselves over and over again to be bad stewards of our environment. Their competition for corporate fundraising dollars puts them in conflict with the need to enact strong laws to protect our planet.

The Conservatives passed a Climate Change Act that allows greenhouse gas emissions to increase

The Liberal record isn't any better - they voted against NDP amendments for real greenhouse gas regulations and reduction targets - putting the interests of big oil ahead of the interests of our environment.

Alberta's environment is steadily being eroded. High water consumption for the tar sands and unmitigated resource development isn't just affecting the health and environment of Albertans. It is affecting the world through high greenhouse gas emissions and global warming.

Alberta's NDP would implement:

Stronger greenhouse gas emissions regulations and enforcement in the oil-patch
More effective environmental compliance and oversight of land reclamation in the oil-patch
A water management plan to ensure that current and future needs are balanced
No additional resource development on our lakeshores and lake beds
A "Green Energy Plan" to invest increased oil and gas royalties into green energy projects, with an emphasis on moving Alberta away from coalpower.
A land use framework that curbs urban sprawl and safeguards valuable farmland and habitats in the vicinity of our cities and towns.
