Diana Batten

About Diana

Diana Batten knows what it means to work hard. She grew up working in her family’s store and became a small business owner at 19, learning early the importance of accountability and follow-through. Those values shaped a career in service as a research scientist, registered nurse, and educator.

In 2023, she won Calgary-Acadia from the UCP in a judicial recount, defeating former Health Minister Tyler Shandro. Since then, she has advocated for reforms to strengthen accountability, safety, and transparency in Alberta’s child and family services system. Her work has focused on implementing recommendations from the Child and Youth Advocate, improving oversight and timely communication in child care settings, expanding access to affordable and high quality child care, and addressing systemic inequities, particularly for Indigenous children, while pushing for earlier supports to better protect vulnerable families. Diana has served as Shadow Minister for Children and Family Services and Child Care, holding this government to account for its failure to protect Alberta's most vulnerable kids.

Diana knows the issues facing Acadia's families are very real.

Diana Batten is ready. Alberta's New Democrats are ready.
