Sharif Haji has always believed in showing up for his community. As the former executive director of the Africa Centre, he spent years building one of the country's largest Black-led organizations, work rooted in his earlier years managing Alberta's first Provincial Affordable Housing Strategy and Alberta's Primary Health Care Strategy.
Today, as Shadow Minister for Primary and Preventative Health Services, Sharif is putting that experience to work, holding the government accountable on the health care Albertans can actually access close to home. He has served on boards across Edmonton, including the Centre for Race and Culture and United Way, and co-founded the Federation of African Canadians Economics to open up capital for Black businesses.
Sharif is the first person of East African descent and the first Black Muslim elected to Alberta's Legislature.
Sharif Haji is ready. Alberta's New Democrats are ready.
