LETHBRIDGE — Alberta NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi is thrilled to announce Rob Miyashiro has been selected by party members in Lethbridge-West to take on Danielle Smith’s candidate and send a message to the UCP in the Lethbridge-West by-election. Turnout for the nomination was 73 per cent of 1,516 eligible voters.
“I’m thrilled to announce Rob Miyashiro as the nominee for the Lethbridge-West by-election,” said Nenshi. “Both of our candidates are amazing community leaders, and I thank them both for putting their names forward. I know Rob will stand up for what truly matters to the people of Lethbridge-West in the upcoming by-election.”
Miyashiro is the executive director of the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization and has been a human services professional for over 40 years. Rob also served two terms on Lethbridge City Council. He lives in Lethbridge with his wife Erin and rescued pets Farley, Wilma, Betty, and Caesar.
“The message our party members sent today is one of hope for a better future,” said Miyashiro. “The Alberta NDP is stronger in Lethbridge-West than we have ever been. We are energized by our new leader, Naheed Nenshi, and we are ready to stand up for the issues that matter to Lethbridge in this by-election. We are for a better, more prosperous future, a healthier Alberta that values fairness, public services, and strong communities.”
Former Alberta NDP MLA Shannon Phillips was elected three times by the people of Lethbridge-West and vacated the constituency’s seat in the Legislature on July 1, 2024.
Danielle Smith is required to call a by-election by January 1st.
