On June 22, 2024, Naheed Nenshi was elected leader of the Alberta New Democratic Party, and one year later was elected as the MLA for Edmonton-Strathcona.
Naheed believes in Alberta and in Canada. Alongside his fellow Alberta New Democrat MLAs, he is focused on building a province where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
Before entering provincial politics, Naheed served three terms as Mayor of Calgary from 2010 to 2021. His leadership delivered major investments in quality of life, including transit, infrastructure, recreation facilities, and libraries. He also led the city through four states of emergency, including the devastating 2013 Alberta floods and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Outside of elected office, Naheed built a global career as a business consultant, advising on infrastructure and corporate strategy projects. He also taught business, marketing, and management at Mount Royal University.
