To attract private capital back to Alberta and build a better future for young people, we need world-class research centres, colleges, and universities, and world-leading skilled trades.
We will support and expand Alberta’s strong apprenticeship system by investing in world-class union training centres, to recruit and train more apprentices into the trades. And to ensure we train the next generation of skilled workers, we will build the state-of-the-art NAIT Advanced Skills Centre to train up to 10,000 apprentices a year to meet the needs of Alberta’s growing and diversified economy.
In addition to our commitment to freeze tuition and reverse the latest round of UCP tuition hikes and to backfill funding for post-secondary institutions:
We will cap interest on student loans to the prime rate, and increase student aid and grants.
We will create 30,000 more student spaces over four years to meet the needs of our future economy - including in health, and in technology and innovation. We will make sure these spaces are accessible to a greater diversity of students, and that accommodations and supports are adequate to support diverse learners.
We will support post-secondary institutions to increase access to mental health services for students. We are committed to providing for five insured mental health sessions for all Albertans.
We will set aside the UCP’s “performance-based funding model”. No other jurisdiction subjects its training and post-secondary education to the permanent chaos and uncertainty the UCP has introduced.
We will provide stable, sustainable multi-year funding to the Campus Saint-Jean.
We will work to create inclusive, anti-racist post-secondary communities and promote anti-racism at our post-secondary institutions.
We will improve recognition of international educational credentials in all areas of the labour market, with a priority on health care.
