Every month, Albertans are opening massive bills simply from keeping their lights on.
For so many people, it makes it impossible to save money and is stretching their budget beyond what is manageable.
Danielle Smith and the UCP have watch bills skyrocket, and still have made things worse. We watched as Danielle Smith introduced a deferral program for surging electricty prices, instead of addressing the cause.
Smith's deferral program will cost Alberta families over $200 million. That's not fair to families while utility bills are expected to skyrocket again this summer.
The Alberta NDP has a solution.
We will implement a rate cap of 12 cents/kWh from July to September to help families during a time where prices are expected to be at their worst.
This, combined with paying down "Dani's debt" will save Alberta households almost $450.
No more gouging, and no more soaring utility prices like we have seen under the UCP.
Rachel Notley, as our next Premier, will launch an investigation into electricity prices to improve competitiveness, reliability, and affordability for Alberta's electricity market in the long-term.
