Alberta NDP leader Rachel Notley committed to delivering better healthcare if she becomes Premier.
Right now, 800,000 Albertans do not have access to a family doctor. Our message to every single one of them is this – if you need a doctor, you will get a doctor.
Under an Alberta NDP government, Family Health Teams will ensure every Albertan has access to a family doctor and a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including nurse practitioners, mental health therapists, pharmacists, social workers, dietitians, and other allied health professionals.
We will invest $350 million to establish 40 new Family Health Clinics and $400 million to hire an additional 4,000 allied health professionals. Not only will our plan provide better healthcare access, but it will also decrease pressure on ERs, EMS, and lower costs for acute care.
Our healthcare system should be centered around the needs of Albertans, and the Family Health Teams plan will make that a reality.
The Alberta NDP will bring transformational changes to public healthcare across the province, including supporting flexible hours for family doctors and health professionals that include evenings and weekends.
Flexible hours are better for working families and parents who struggle with taking time off work to accommodate appointments.
By providing team-based care, we can tailor resources to meet the unique needs of the community we serve. This model of care is essential to providing the highest quality care possible for patients while also supporting the well-being of healthcare providers.
