We believe that every Albertan, regardless of their race, gender, gender identity, gender expression, age, disability, or sexual orientation, should have the opportunity to fully participate in a meaningful life.
Rachel Notley and The Alberta NDP will champion fairness, dignity, and justice, and enhance the capacity of the Alberta Human Rights Commission, specifically to address the rising complaints related to racism and hate.
Across the public service, we will increase leadership, representation, and engagement with communities, including with racialized and gender-diverse Albertans to inform our efforts, policies, and programs.
We will consult extensively on and introduce Accessibility and Inclusion Legislation to outline a framework to identify, remove, and prevent barriers to full participation of people living with disabilities in their communities and in the economy.
The Alberta NDP will support better representation for women, 2SLGBTQ+, and gender-diverse people. We will create a Minister Responsible for the Status of Women and Gender Equity.
Partnering with communities, we will lift up the organizations that build and strengthen the community with grants to help continue their work with women, newcomers, caregiving, 2SLGBTQ+ people, and other marginalized groups.
And an Alberta NDP government will re-introduce legal protections for GSAs in schools, allowing students to create and participate in them without delays, restrictions, or reprisal.
Through our Family Health Teams, we will ensure that specialized care teams are available to support the health of 2SLGBTQ+ Albertans, ensuring that all Albertans have access to quality, equitable care.
We will work with Alberta Health and Alberta Health Services to increase timely access to gender-affirming healthcare, and ultimately ensure access to quality affirming care and resources.
From economic opportunties and social services, to access to the justice system and health care, racialized Albertans face more barriers in our communities.
So we will pass an Anti-Racism Act and establish an Anti-Racism Office to collect data, identify, and monitor racial disparities. This recommendation comes from focused consultations with 600 Albertans over several months.
Racialized communities will have a leadership role in the development of data collection and be closely involved in reporting and recommending actions.
The Alberta NDP will never stop striving to take meaningful action to address the rising rate of hate crimes by establishing a dedicated Alberta Hate Crimes Unit. This unit will use data and coordinate meaningful action to reduce and respond to hate crimes. We will regularly report on hate crime complaints and outcomes, ensuring public accountability for our policies and actions.
We will support anti-racism training for front-line police officers, Crown attorneys, and community groups.
