Providing opportunities for students to learn in a variety of languages helps children strengthen ties to their culture and build important literacy skills.
We announced plans for a Filipino language and culture curriculum in 2019. The UCP cancelled those plans.
If elected, we will develop a Filipino curriculum for interested schools. Alberta has the second highest population of Filipino Canadians in Canada - 5.2% of our population.
There is a powerful economic case for teaching a wide range of language skills in our schools. These opportunities promote Alberta as a global destination for anyone seeking to build a career, start a business, or raise their family.
It's age-inappropriate for kids, did not include proper consultation, and is overwhelmingly opposed by teachers.
We will immediately reverse the curriculum changes imposed by the UCP, and launch broad public consultations within 100 days of being elected.
