With Danielle Smith and the UCP, Alberta has seen less and less investment in our people and our communities. Public safety has become a growing concern and a direct consequence of the UCP’s choices.
In 2021-22 under the UCP, only 58,000 housing units were supported. That’s 8,000 fewer units while waiting lists for affordable housing have increased to more than 25,000 people.
Per capita, Lethbridge has one of the largest homelessness crises in Alberta. Reports show almost 500 people were without a home, with more than half of them unsheltered.
The Alberta NDP have developed a plan to tackle the immense housing challenges facing Albertan communities, and we are making specific commitments to address public safety and homelessness in the City of Lethbridge:
