The people of Red Deer and central Alberta deserve their regional hospital to be a priority. The UCP’s handling of the Red Deer Hospital expansion has been chaotic and incompetent. After nearly four years they have quietly delayed the project even further.

Albertans are sick of waiting – waiting for ambulances, waiting for surgeries, and waiting for a government who cares.

Rachel Notley will prioritize the completion of the Red Deer Regional Hospital, in fact, she'll accelerate it.

An Alberta NDP government will invest an additional $650 million in funding over three years to accelerate the hospital construction, over and above what was included in Budget 2023. This will bring the full investment over three years to $971 million.

To accelerate construction on the Red Deer Regional Hospital, we will:

• Create a Senior Director of Project Management to be a central decision maker who will drive the project forward.
• Fund extended construction hours, where it is safe and makes sense to do so for both workers and patients.
• Create a dedicated cross departmental team to accelerate permitting, including working with the municipality.
• Explore an Integrated Design and Construction approach to expedite construction.
• Develop and consult on a transition plan to ensure emergent needs are addressed while construction is in progress.

We’ll also:

• Recruit and train new healthcare workers to ensure the hospital is fully staffed
• Be transparent with the project's timeline and communicate any changes
• Never pursue a P3 construction model for the hospital, as these models only lead to further delays.

We will provide stable, competent leadership that will end the chaos in healthcare in central Alberta.
