Seniors built this province.
While they should be entering a relaxing time of retirement spent with loved ones, many seniors are worried about affording their bills.
Danielle Smith and the UCP have threatened to take the province out of the Canada Pension Plan, which could gamble away many Albertans retirement security.
We believe your pension belongs to you. And we’ll protect it.
Rachel Notley is committed to protecting your pension, improving homecare, and restoring drug benefits, and other measures to help seniors live independently at home.
We will also help seniors enjoy their retirement at home by giving seniors the supports they need to stay healthy and live independently.
The Alberta NDP will increase homecare clients by 20,000 over the next four years, giving seniors more medical support. And we will help at home with things like snow shoveling, yard care, transportation and meal preparation with a 50 per cent increase to Family and Community Support Services.
We'll also build more seniors housing in both independent and communal settings to give seniors more choice as they age, and expand the Seniors Home and Adaptation Repair Program for those who need to make renovations to stay in their own homes.
Our plan for seniors also includes a major investment in building continuing care beds, prioritizing development within the public and nonprofit sectors, with a better plan for staffing and oversight.
For seniors living on a fixed income, Danielle Smith and the UCP have put too much pressure on household budgets by reversing coverage for drivers medical exams and cuts to rental assistance.
Drivers medical exams will be covered once again, and we will reverse the UCP's cruel cuts.
On top of that, Rachel Notley and the Alberta NDP will make the shingles vaccine availble to seniors at no cost, and bring spouses and dependents back into the Seniors Drug Benefit program.
Life has become too expensive under the UCP, and we're determined to help lower costs for those who helped us build the foundation of this wonderful province.
